Cubmaster Corner - September Edition

Updated: Sep 1

Hello Pack 442!!! Wow! What a Swim Party! Thank you to all who came out to kick off the scouting year, making it a huge success. We also celebrated our first Pack Meeting of the Year at The Lakeway Church, where we officially welcomed 26 new families to the Pack. We had a wonderful turnout with many new scouts excited to join Pack 442. September will be busy with a lot of great activities, all beginning with our Shooting Sports Weekend at Camp Tom Wooten. That is quickly followed by our annual Bike Rodeo. Read through this month's Cubmaster Corner to get the details you need to hit the ground running!

The recording for the Parent Orientation is available on our website if you missed the meeting. Please consider watching the video as a review of the specifics of our pack operations. We also have a Parent Guidebook available for your use at any time.

For all scouts that attended (and those that didn't and will be making up the requirements of the Bobcat Adventure at the first Den Meetings), you need to complete the Protect Yourself Requirements (last one) for each rank at home. This is a short video and conversation. Once you have completed it, please mark it off in Scoutbook, or let your Den Leader know that it has been completed.

Remember that any scout recruiting someone into the pack receives the recruiter patch. Please let Josh know if you should be credited with a recruiting effort.

FINANCIAL UPDATE:

FUNDRAISER KICK-OFF

We are excited to start our Fundraiser this year, bringing a few changes and options to help the pack reach its financial goals. Please remember that fundraisers account for more than half of our income, and this activity helps keep our dues low and provides a high-quality program for our scouts.

Just like last year, we will be selling coffee with our partner Cuvee Coffee out of Spicewood, Texas. One change is that all coffee will be sold via individual sales, either through family, friends, neighborhood booths, or other direct sales opportunities like going to a parent's work. We will not be selling coffee at any storefronts this year (such as Lowe's, like in previous years).

This year we are participating in the Scouting Popcorn program through Trail's End. Popcorn will be primarily sold through storefront opportunities in the Lakeway area (Randalls, Flores Mexican Restaurant, etc.) and individual sales like coffee. Sales of any products will be applied to your Scout's total goals. The storefronts have been and remain the best opportunity to sell, so please consider signing your scout up for times through the Trail's End website.

To sign-up for Popcorn sales, you need to register your scout through the Trail's End website. Our unit code is HGFEJ. An email has been sent to you to complete this signup, so please do not delete. Once you are signed up, you may log in and sign up for storefronts to sell. We should strive to fill all time slots, and work with a partner scout when we can. Storefronts start on Saturday, September 21 and run through November.

We need all Scouts to begin reserving storefront times on the Trail's End website as soon as you have signed up your scout on the website.

You can find all of the information you need about Fundraiser at the links below. We went over the fundraiser lightly at the Pack Meeting on August 26th as part of the parent orientation. The best opportunity to learn more and pick up products will be at our Kick-off Event below:

Fundraiser Kick-off & Spirit Night - Wednesday, September 12th 4:00pm - 8:00pm @ Craig O's Lakeway

A portion of the profits from dinner this night will be returned to Pack 442, so come have dinner, invite friends to have dinner, learn about the fundraiser, and pick up products to sell!

We are asking each scout to complete a goal of $300 in coffee and/or popcorn sales, so we need everyone's help!

For all current(registered) scouts, please RSVP through Scoutbook.

Den Meetings - Are beginning this month, so please make sure to RSVP through Scoutbook and attend those meetings.

REGISTRATION:

General Pack Info for All Scouts!

Pack 442 2024-2025 Calendar: Catch a sneak peek at our Website Calendar for the next scout year. There may be slight changes as we enter the year, but we’ll do our best to stick with this as closely as possible. PDF version for your frig is located HERE!

Den Calendars will be provided as the scouting year starts, and all of the events are/will be loaded into the Scoutbook calendars for each den. All calendar communication will officially come through Scoutbook, so ensure you are connected to your scout. We will go over this at the August Pack Meeting for anyone who is not. Below is a glimpse at what the calendars could look like. Den meeting dates will be set by your Den Leaders in the coming weeks.

Registration Info:

The registration process has changed for this year. There is now a rolling clock for registrations, with scouts needing to pay their yearly registration fees on their anniversary. All incoming and current Lion and Tiger scouts will have a registration date of when their application was submitted. All older scouts (Wolf and older) default to the old timeline of December 31.

What does this mean for you? If you get an email from Boy Scouts of America asking you to pay your registration fee, please do not worry about making that payment, as the pack will take care of it for you (as long as you are registered with us this year and have paid your dues). Your yearly dues cover your registration costs. This new process is especially tricky for those who registered early in recruitment during the month of August. If you have paid or accidently paid your fee, please let us know so that we can get a reimbursement back to you.

Additionally, if you are NOT interested in receiving the Scout Life Magazine in the mail or your family does not use it, please let us know so we can discontinue it. It costs $15 per year to receive this, which is covered by the pack. We can better allocate the money spent if you do not see the need for it. Please email lakewayscouts442@gmail.com to let us know.

As we kick off the new year, we need several pieces of info from all the scouts, both new and returning.   You can find the link to all of the required forms HERE.   This includes:

-       Scout Registration Form – Update our roster/contact info for the pack

-       Medical Forms – These need to be filled out every year so we have them on hand during events. A Form is required for all family members who will participate in an overnight event (campout, overnight)

-       Photo Media Release – Needed to post/share media of our adventures.

-       Family Talent Survey – Best way to connect volunteers to where we need them most.

Check our Pack Registration Log to see your status on all of the above. Click Here.

CLOSING:

The Shooting Sports adventures are one of the most exciting activities we do, and we look forward to having the scouts out and learning how to safely use the equipment while having fun! Please take a moment to RSVP (Scoutbook-Registered Scouts) or RSVP (Website) so we can plan accordingly.

Hope to see you this weekend at Camp Tom Wooten!

YIS,

Bryan Weatherford
